A Pacific Northwest native, Matt Kukuk (Kukuk is pronounced like cue-cuck) has spent his entire life exploring the forests and shorelines of Puget Sound.
After obtaining a B.S. degree in Geography from Central Washington University, Matt spent the past ten years working for Island County in a variety of roles, ranging from Senior Shoreline Planner to Manager of the Resource Enhancement Program.
This experience has provided expertise in local, state and federal laws including the WA State Growth Management Act, Shoreline Management Act, State (SEPA) and National (NEPA) Environmental Policy Acts, National Historic Preservation Act, Federal Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act. Matt assisted with developing curriculum for a local homeowners septic training program certifying landowners to inspect and maintain their residential septic systems, as well as managed state and federal grants for monitoring and improving surface water quality and salmon habitat restoration.
Additionally, Matt obtained a certificate in Wetland Science and Management from the University of Washington in 2007 and has experience in identifying and mapping wetlands, streams, lakes and marine shoreline habitats.
This diverse background has provided given him a broad set of skills in the fields of land use and environmental management. Matt is now putting these skills to use serving the communities of the north Puget Sound region as owner of Saratoga Environmental & Land Services.
